When I work with spas I don’t only concentrate my energies on creating an outstanding, unique massage menu, I also empower their team of therapists with the right tools and knowledge to successfully execute the massages. The ability to give a massage such that it provides full benefit to the client (both to the body and the mind) involves much more than simple understanding of massage techniques. In developing my Pure Massage Spa Training Method® I have closely looked at the therapist and how he or she can achieve her best performance and maintain high quality throughout her career. During my extensive research and experience, I discovered the great positive impact mindfulness and meditation have on therapists’ performance and, consequently, on the happiness of spa’s clients. I’ve listed some of the benefits of consistent meditation and mindfulness. Improved physical health One of the first benefits of meditation is learning how to breathe correctly. You would think we all know how to breathe (otherwise we wouldn’t be here), but there’s a reasonable difference between breathing correctly and just breathing. This has amazing consequences, as the body starts to relax and let go of stress. Studies have proven that relaxation increases the compound nitric oxide that causes blood vessels to open up and subsequently, blood pressure to drop. Cardiovascular benefits are added to an improved immune system. Improved mental health Mindfulness training allows you to gain some control over your own mental health, by improving your relationship with your own thoughts and giving you the ability to regulate emotions in the brain. This means that it becomes easier to be focused on what one is doing and to have a deeper awareness of both the surroundings and one’s self. Overall, meditation can help you reach a state of higher body and mind strength, self-aware and, ultimately, happiness. These are all positive characteristics that anyone, especially therapists whose responsibility is to help clients achieve better wellbeing and wellness, should aim for in life. Today, I dedicate myself to meditation, promoting it among my students and therapists. Their success - your spa’s success - is, in fact, dependent on how much in control of their health (body and mind) they are.
